SELEUCIS and PIERIA, Emesa. Caracalla. AD 198-217. AR Tetradrachm (26.5mm, 13.13 g, 12h). Struck circa AD 215-217. Laureate head right / Eagle standing facing, head left, with wings spread, holding wreath in beak; between legs, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Shamash left; O to right of eagle's head. Prieur 1023 (this coin–misattributed by Prieur, should be his no. 1002). Lightly toned, flan crack,a few light marks. Good VF.

From the Michel Prieur Collection. Ex Giessener Münzhandlung 46 (30 October 1989), lot 393.

In his book, Prieur labels this as "Officina with Double Crescent," and states that it is a double crescent (an inverted crescent over another crescent) to the right of the eagle's head. In this cataloguer's opinion, this is just a poorly engraved O.
