MESOPOTAMIA, Edessa. Caracalla. AD 198-217. AR Tetradrachm (25.5mm, 14.05 g, 12h). Struck circa AD 215-217. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Eagle standing facing, head right, with wings spread, holding [wreath] in beak; between legs, shrine with pediment. Prieur 849A var. (rev. legend). Lightly toned. EF. Extremely rare, Prieur did not own this example when he published his book, and none in CoinArchives.

From the Michel Prieur Collection. Ex Sabine Bourgey/Fraysse & Associés (26 November 2009), lot 268 (part of).

The die engraver appears to have forgotten the wreath in the eagle's beak on this coin.
