Kingdom of Macedon, Alexander III 'the Great' AV Stater. Sidon, dated CY 11 = 323/2 BC. In Dated Coins of Antiquity, Cohen reassigns the dating of this issue to 323/2 BC on the basis that the Sidonians, having switched to the Greek alphabetic numbering system, confused the eleventh Phoenician letter Kof for the tenth Greek letter K. The last Sidonian coin using the Phoenician alphabetic dating system bears a Yud for year 10 suggesting that the Greek alphabetic system was adopted thereafter in year 11. As there are no known examples bearing the eleventh Greek letter Λ and the sequence continues with the twelfth letter M, the numismatic evidence seems to support Cohen's reattribution.
