Pippin II of Aquitaine (839-852) Denier ND (845-848) AU50 NGC, Melle mint, Rob-1872, MEC I-814, MG-606, Dep-617 (2 examples studied). 21mm. 1.67gm. +PIPINVS REX EQ, cross pattee / +METVLLO, Pipinus monogram. Boasting a delightful quality for Pippin's short-lived coinage, toned somewhere between stone-gray and obsidian, the lettering of the mint name carefully measured and cut, some minor recutting visible in the Aquitanian king's name. Sold with old CNG auction tag.
