Carolingian. Charles the Bald (840-877) Denier ND (840-864) Good VF (deposits, edge cracks), Paris mint, Class 1, Rob-1313, MEC I-843, MG-827, Dep-762. 20mm. 1.64gm. +CΛRLVS RE+ FR, cross pattee / +PΛRISII CIVITΛS, temple portico. A piece which suggests careful preparation and very skillful die cutting, the letters evenly measured out and positioned, and the temple exceptionally clean. Despite a small crack around the V in Carolus, the flan appears to be of good integrity and high quality metal.
