Philip IV (1285-1314) Gros Tournois a l'O rond ND (c. 1305?) AU50 NGC, Dup-213B. 4.11gm. Variety with tiny crown on the serif of the L in PHILIPPVS (L ornementee). Unusually handsome for an otherwise quite common emission, a few small imperfections detectable, but with bright luminosity between the details giving a highly antique look. Fully desirable, and among the nicest the cataloger has seen. Sold with old collector's envelope.
