François I (1515-1547) gold Ecu d'Or au soleil ND MS62 NGC, Lyon mint, Fr-342, Dup-771 var (with inner border on obverse). 3.40 gm. +FRANCISCVS +OEI: GRA: FRANCORVM: REX (trefoil), crowned royal shield, sun above / +XPS +VINCIT: XPS: REGNAT: XPS: IMPERAT (trefoil), cross-fleury, crowned F in second and fourth angles. 2nd Type, 1st Emission (from 23 January 1515). Bright and lustrous with a charming velveteen softness to the surfaces - the finest example of the type seen by NGC. Sold with old collector's envelope.
