This reverse type is an invention of Giovanni Cavino and recalls the quotation "I came; I saw; I conquered" recorded by Plutarch and Suetonius, referring to Caesar's speech to the Senate following his victory over Pharnakes II in 47 BC (Plutarch, Caesar. 50; Suetonius, Iulius Caesar, 37).
