Julia Domna (wife of S. Severus) Æ22 of Bura, Achaea. AD 193-211. [IOV]ΛI[A ΔOMNA] CЄBAC[TH], draped bust right / BOYPAЄѠN, Tyche standing facing, head left, holding rudder and cornucopiae. BCD Peloponnesos -, but cf. 470.1 for rev. type (Severus); NCP -; BMC -. 4.15g, 22mm, 9h.
Very Fine. Extremely Rare; no other examples on CoinArchives.
Bura was one of the twelve cities of Achaea and located to the southwest, near the coast. No coinage is known to have been struck at Bura except that issued during the reign of the Severans. The BCD collection contained coins in the names of Septimius Severus, Caracalla and Geta but lacked this extremely rare issue in the name of Julia Domna, possibly being offered at auction for the first time.
