Nero Claudius Drusus. Aureus; Nero Claudius Drusus; Died 9 BC, Lugdunum, struck under Claudius I, c. 41-47 AD, Aureus, 7.64g. BM-104, Paris-7, C-5 (80 Fr.), RIC-73 (R). Obv: NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMAN[ICVS] IMP Head of Drusus l. wearing oak wreath. Rx: DE - GE - R - MA - NIS Vexillum behind crossed hexagonal shields, trumpets, and spears. From a French private collection, with older handwritten ticket. These dies are not illustrated by Von Kaenel, Münzprägung des Claudius, pl. 4-5. The wreath worn by Drusus on his aurei and denarii, misidentified as a laurel wreath until recognized as oak by D. Salzmann in 1976, was presumably an honor voted to him by the Senate after his death.. VF
