Obv: Quadriga left, driver crowned by Victory, armor in exergue. Rx: Head of Arethusa wearing pearl necklace with "K" signature on headband; surrounded by four dolphins representing that Syracuse was originally an island. Second signature signed "KIMON" on dolphin beneath Arethusa. Formally NGC 3762307-001. Ex Hess-Leu Sale 24,16 April 1964, Lot 80.This is one of the most famous and desirable coins in the entire Greek series. The head of Athena is utterly breathtaking. When held in the hand, the stunning high relief of the head of Arethusa mesmerizes and inspires you. There is a small flan crack across the eye and two planchet defects in the field between the top left dolphin and the face of Arethusa. The signature K is on the headband and also on the lower dolphin, although not extremely sharp at that point. EF
