Trajan. AR Tridrachm; Trajan; 98-117 AD, Uncertain Mint, 112-5 AD, Tridrachm, 10.55g. Bust var. of Sydenham, Caesarea-220. Obv: AVTOKP KAIC NEP TPAIANOC CEB GEP ?AK Head laureate r. Rx: Six wheat ears tied together, titles in Greek equivalent to TR P COS VI. Hoard evidence proves that this and three other tridrachm types of Trajan must have been struck in Palestine or Arabia, not in Caesarea as traditionally thought: W.E. Metcalf, The Tell Kalak Hoard and Trajan's Arabian Mint, Museum Notes 20, 1975, p. 99. The style of the dies, however, suggests that they may have been produced by mint of Rome engravers.. VF
