Charles III gold 8 Escudos 1771 LM-JM MS62 NGC, Lima mint, KM73, Onza-689. Type II, modified "semi rat-nose" bust. Representing the finest graded example of this date and hailing from one of the great collections of the century, this captivating 8 Escudos features bold detailing that extends to every facet of the design, with lustrous golden fields displaying sharp luster at the edges. The denticles are well-defined, framing the centers with an evenness that can only arise from a uniform strike such as the one seen here. A micro-granular texturing over Charles' bust results in a satisfying degree of character and uniqueness, with a scattering of adjustment marks visible across the reverse center shield, though certainly not obscuring any significant detail. A scarcer example from this 5 year-series, and undeniably of great conditional rarity.
