George V gold Sovereign 1924-SA MS61 NGC, Pretoria mint, KM21, S-4004, Hern-S338, Marsh-288 (R5). A very scarce date struck in a mintage of only 3,184 pieces. Accordingly, examples of this year are considered among the great rarities of South African coinage, making any such selections, particularly Mint State ones, objects of great desire. This offering is blessed by light orange-gold tone, with a satiny texturing in the fields easily absorbing any wisps of handing that set the grade, but which consequently have less bearing for what remains decidedly strong eye appeal.
