Formally issued broker's medals were issued by the Corporation of London to restrain "ill practice of brokers..." Brokers swore an oath, paid an annual fee, posted a bond and observed limits on commission charges. The medal they carried was to "serve as proof to customers that they were properly licensed." (Cf.
