Ancients
Philip I (AD 244-249). AE sestertius (29mm, 21.20 gm, 1h). VF. Rome, AD 249. IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Philip right / AETERNITAS AVGG, elephant guided left by mahout, holding goad and wand; GS in exergue. RIC IV.III 167a. An interesting variety with GS engraved in the exergue instead of SC. In addition, the same letters, G and S, in the final section of the obverse legend, are rendered in a large and out-of-place format...an ancient mystery that may never be solved.

Ludi Saeculares (Secular Games) issue, commemorating the 1000th anniversary of Rome.
