JUDAEA. Bar Kochba Revolt, 132-135 C.E. AR Zuz (3.26 gms), Jerusalem Mint, Attributed to Year 3 (134/5 C.E.). NGC MS, Strike: 3/5 Surface: 4/5. Overstruck.
Mildenberg-135 (O19/R95); Meshorer-283; Hendin-1427. Obverse: "Simon" across field; all within wreath with eight almonds; Reverse: Flagon with handle; palm frond to right; "for the freedom of Jerusalem" around. An interesting piece, this specimen exhibits no real evidence of wear and offers a light tone with some golden highlights. The undertype, a denarius of Vespasian, is extremely visible on the obverse, with the upper half of the legend and top of Vespasian's head peeking through.
