CARACALLA, A.D. 198-217. AV Aureus (7.42 gms), Rome Mint, A.D. 214. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5. Fine Style.
RIC-250; Calicó-2715. Obverse: ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right; Reverse: P M TR P XVII COS IIII P P, domed Temple of Vesta; in foreground, Caracalla, Julia Domna, two children, and three Vestals gathered around lighted and garlanded altar. Featuring a rather rare and interesting reverse type, this gorgeous aureus exhibits extensive luster and a boldness of strike, very well centered on its full flan. A hint of light wear is detected upon close examination, but in the opinion of this cataloger, the present specimen is a premium quality piece for its grade designation. Worthy of intense consideration by the advanced collector of fine Roman gold.

Estimate: $25000.00- $30000.00
