VALERIAN I, A.D. 253-260. AV Quinarius (or Light Aureus) (1.89 gms), Colonia Agrippinensis Mint, A.D. 257-260. NGC AU★, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5.
MIR-887b (citing 1 specimen); RIC-unlisted; Calicó-unlisted. Obverse: VALERIANVS P F AVG, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right; Reverse: VIRTVS AVGG, Virtus standing left, holding victoriola and spear.

A type known only to Göbl in his extensive work on the coinage of Valerian and Gallienus (it is unlisted in both RIC and Calicó), this gold quinarius (or light aureus) can be seen as excessively rare and quite likely just the second known. The present piece yields a brilliant luster and radiance, along with a pleasing and alluring strike. A wondrous opportunity to acquire an exceptional rarity unlikely to be rivaled.

Estimate: $30000.00- $40000.00
