ETHIOPIA. Gold Pattern 1/4 Birr (2 Werk), EE 1917 (1924). Addis Ababa Mint. Zewditu I. NGC AU-50.
Fr-25; Gill-YA21; KMX-4.1. A RARE and popular trial issue from the Empress Zewditu I during her brief tenure while Ras Tafari (Haile Selassie) was coming of age. It exhibits an obliterated denomination on the reverse, done so to confirm that these were presentation, rather than regular, issues. Even circulation wear is readily apparent, possibly from a brief time spent as a pocket piece long in the past, but there are few individually noteworthy surface marks and the overall appearance of the specimen is highly appealing.
From the Collection of Dr. James Eustace Bizzell, II.
Estimate: $3000.00- $4000.00
