FRANCE. Louis d'Or, 1717-A. Paris Mint. Louis XV. NGC MS-63.
12.2 gms. Fr-450; KM-428.1; Gad-344. 27 mm. "de Noailles" type. Obverse: Crowned bust left of the boy king; Reverse: Crowned cruciform shields of France and Navarre. Struck when the king was just 7 years old. An intriguing issue of oversized proportions that is considerably SCARCE in Choice Mint State. Lustrous and lightly reflective in the fields, with evidence of planchet adjustment apparent at the centers of each side. Dark honey-gold accents complement the overall brassy yellow coloration.

Named after the President of the Finances Council, the Duke of Noailles, many examples from its rather large mintage (447,017) were sent to the melting pot when the new type, the Louis d'or à la croix de Malte, was introduced in 1718.

Estimate: $4750.00- $5500.00
