A popular private-issue satirical type, struck bearing the portrait of Patrice de MacMahon who was the Chief of State of the Third Republic (1873-1875) with the whimsical addition of "NAPOLEON F." below the bust where the engraver's name is often placed. The reverse features Papal-style arms, undoubtedly the result of MacMahon's staunch observance of Catholicism.
