GERMANY. Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Oehringen. Taler, 1624. Nurnberg Mint. Kraft VII. NGC MS-62.
Dav-6826; KM-19.2; Albrecht-116. Wonderfully preserved throughout, this piece boasts an intricate strike that was accomplished by roller dies, strong silvery luster in the fields and surfaces that show few marks, reflecting centuries of mindful handling. Adding to it all, the obverse displays magnificent tone that outlines the designs in electric yellow and orange shades, creating a glowing appearance that is truly sublime. Easily the most exquisite example of this RARE "Knight on Horseback" type that we have seen and sure to become a "favorite" in the next collector it enters.

NGC followed the Standard Catalog of World Coins in attributing this to Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Neuenstein while we have followed Davenport in assigning this to Hohenlohe-Neuenstein-Oehringen. Hohenlohe lies in Swabia between Wurttemberg and Ansbach and hardly seems worth the splintering it experienced in the seventeenth century. Several of the counts issued joint coinage, complicating matters.

From the Linda Collection.

Estimate: $5000.00- $8000.00
