GERMANY. Munster. Taler, 1761. Sede Vacante. Augsburg Mint. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield.
KM-199; Dav-2470; Zepernick-225. Obverse: Charlemagne, founder of the Carolingian Empire, standing holding sword in one hand and globus cruciger in the other; Reverse: Cathedral in Munster. Struck upon the death of Clemens August of Bavaria, Prince-Bishop of Munster. A lovely one-year type in impressive Mint State that displays pale orange-peach color in the fields and similarly subtle instances of green and blue around the designs. A touch of customary softness appears in the centers, but it isn't extreme.

The bishops of Munster issued Talers on occasion during the early eighteenth century but this sede vacante issue of 1761 was the last.

From the Linda Collection.

Estimate: $1200.00- $1700.00
