GREAT BRITAIN. Angel, ND (1505-09). London Mint. Henry VII. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield.
5.11 gms, 79.1 grains (Law Sale Catalog). S-2187; North-1698; Fr-151. Mintmark: Pheon (Class V). Obverse: St. Michael spearing dragon, both feet on dragon. Two saltires at top of obverse legend. Reverse: Ship with shield at center. Also obtained directly at the Law Collection sale, this is a splendid Type V Angel from this ruler and a perfect type coin representing the monarch and denomination. Fully lustrous and frosty; as made with exceptional surfaces. The St, Michael facial details are extraordinary on this example and merit close inspection in hand. The perimeter has a scattered irregularity near the left edge, to be accurate, but this minor occasion seems overcome by the coin's overall broad appearance and roundness. Premium quality as stated in the Law Collection catalog and its hefty realization versus the conservative estimate in that sale favored that.
