GREAT BRITAIN. Angel, ND (1584-86). London Mint. Elizabeth I. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield.
4.96 gms, 76.6 grains (Law Sale Catalog). S-2531; North-2005; Fr-211. Mintmark: Escallop (Fifth Issue). Obverse: St. Michael spearing dragon. Reverse: Ship with shield at center. A third stunning Mint State Angel obtained by the consignor directly at the Law Collection sale. These were the finest quality of this gorgeous style denomination in the sale and handpicked for acquisition with that purpose. This late coinage Elizabeth Angel exhibits frosty, natural luster. As made and very round, it borders on broad-edged in our view. There is only some trivial legend blurriness here and there. This much superior to a similar example (also PCGS MS-62) we sold in January 2019 for $7,800. Another perfect type coin and not often encountered except as part of exceptional collections such as Law.

From the Downing Collection.

Ex: Thomas H. Law Collection of English Gold Coins (Stack's Bowers - 8/2013) Lot 20108 @ $9,987.50.

Ex: B.A. Seaby (1985).

Estimate: $6000.00- $9000.00
