Eimer-123, MI-I-266/60. Thick Flan variety. Official Coronation Issue by Nicholas Briot. Obverse: Crowned and draped bust of Charles I. Reverse: Thistle flower. The surfaces exhibit a deep olive-green tone which contains areas that transition to sapphire when examined from the right angle. There is only gentile wear on the high points, and the recesses still exhibit flashes of original luster. A magnificent example of this SCARCE issue.
Famous for his role in the English Civil War, Charles was tried and executed in 1649 after being defeated by Oliver Cromwell and the parliamentary forces.
