GREAT BRITAIN. Crown, 1819 Year LIX. London Mint. George III. NGC MS-65.
S-3787; KM-675; Dav-103; ESC-unlisted. 'Small tail Q'/rev. of 1818 mule variety. An intensely attractive and alluring specimen, offering lustrous surfaces and an vibrant palette, mixing hues of cobalt, burgundy, and light goldenrod. On the obverse, this iridescence is set mostly upon the fields, allowing George's portrait to stand out even further, essentially creating a cameo effect. An inconsequential mark on his neck prevents a higher grade. Of even greater interest, however, is that fact that the Q in QUI features a very small tail as was used for the 1818 issues. As such, this piece would appear to be a muling of an 1819-dated obverse and a holdover die from 1818 as the reverse. Unlisted in both ESC's, this wondrous specimen represents an INCREDIBLY RARE chance at an amazing coin.

Ex: Peter J. Davies Collection (author of British Silver Coins since 1816).

Estimate: $3000.00- $4000.00
