GREAT BRITAIN. Victoria Golden Jubilee Silver Medal, ND (1887). London Mint. NGC MS-64.
77 mm Eimer-1733b; BHM-3219. Commemorating her Golden Jubilee. By Wyon after Boehm and Leighton. Obverse: Crowned, veiled, and draped bust left; Reverse: Victoria (as a personification of the Empire) seated facing on throne, holding reversed sword set upon ground and orb surmounted by crowning Victory; above, two cherubim flying and holding shields and wreaths; to left, Science, Letters, and Art standing right; to right, Industry and Agriculture standing left; at their feet, Mercury reclining right and Time seated left; all set upon pediment above five interlocked shields signifying the empire's dominions. An exceptionally alluring and enticing piece, this large medal offers tremendous eye appeal through its unending luster and toning, featuring a mélange of cobalt and burgundy enveloping the devices. More notably, this specimen is free from many of the typical and unfortunate hairlines which tend to be seen on the silver issues. Compare to an NGC MS-65 with far less charm and which realized a hammer of over $8,000 in early 2018. Includes original box of issue.
Estimate: $3500.00- $4500.00
