GREECE. Silvered Bronze Award Medal, 1900. Prince George. PCGS SPECIMEN-63 Gold Shield.
Awarded for the 1st International Exhibition in Chania on the island of Crete. Obverse: Uniformed bust facing slightly left; olive branch below; Reverse: Legend in three lines; scroll below inscribed XANIA - KPHTH; all within oak and laurel wreath. A rare and interesting medal for an expo presided over by Prince George, this choice example exhibits a good deal of toning along with an attractive underlying luster. A fully silver specimen realized a hammer of over $1200 in 2014.
