ITALY. Naples & Sicily. Piastra (120 Grana), 1731-VMA DG. Naples Mint. Carlo VI. NGC VF-30.
KM-145; Dav-1396. A VERY RARE type which doesn't appear to have appeared at an American auction in recent memory. A rather well circulated but problem free example of the type.

Naples and Sicily were ruled by the Spanish Habsburgs from the time of Charles I to the death of Charles II in 1700. Philip V attempted to retain the kingdom for Spain but was forced to surrender it in 1713 by the treaty of Utrecht. Naples went to Austria and Sicily went to Savoy, which traded it to Austria for Sardinia in 1720. Both were reconquered by the Spanish and given to Charles of Bourbon, Philip's younger son, in 1738. This piastra was issued by the Austrian administration in 1731 and 1733.

Estimate: $2000.00- $2400.00
