MEXICO. Silver Onza Pattern, 1951. Mexico City Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-61 Gold Shield.
KM-Pn198. One of the most famous and enticing 20th century Mexican patterns, this 'Miner & Elephant' piece is truly an interesting---and somewhat perplexing---design. The obverse pays homage to the work of the miner, displaying one of these numismatically important workers with his helmet, headlamp, and pickax. The reverse, however, features an Asian elephant---not exactly an animal which one would associate with Mexico---but artistic and attractive nonetheless. An extraordinarily rare piece, with a reported mintage of only two examples, though there are likely at least a few others extant. In any event, the only other sales record which this cataloger could find, also a PCGS SPECIMEN-61, realized a hammer of $12,000 in September 2014. Truly, a momentous chance to acquire an exquisite rarity not likely to cross the auction block again anytime soon.

Estimate: $10000.00- $12000.00
