MOROCCO. 10 Mithquals (10 Riyals), AH 1201 (1787). Madrid Mint. Muhammed III. NGC MS-61.
KM-PnA1; Lecompte-1; Fr-4. An amazing rarity, the first machine-struck issue produced for Morocco, but ultimately rejected due to the death of Muhammed III and rising tensions between the new Sultan and Spain. Certainly, the inclusion of the mint name of Madrid upon the coin contributed to this rejection. The issue was melted down and it has been suggested that fewer than 10 examples of this interesting type are extant, some of which may possibly be patterns that had been shipped to Morocco for approval ahead of the full production run. The present offering has been carefully preserved and is currently the only example certified in Mint State by NGC of a total population there of two pieces. The PCGS population reflects five pieces in total, none of which are certified in Mint State.

Estimate: $22000.00- $24000.00
