PHILIPPINES. Mint Error -- Struck on Foreign Planchet -- 50 Centavos, 1945-S. NGC MS-66.
4.8 gms. KM-183; Allen-15.02. Struck on an unknown foreign coin planchet. A sharply struck, highly interesting error with crisp clear design features and full mint brilliance as would be expected from this Superb Gem uncirculated piece. The smooth satiny surfaces are graced by a thin veneer of champagne tone which deepens toward the edges. Significant portions of the legend are off the flan, but does exhibit a clear bold full four-digit date. An EXTREMELY RARE error worthy of a premium bid from the specialist.

During this time the US mints of San Francisco, Denver and Philadelphia produced coinage for many different countries on a variety of different weight and purity standards. After reviewing the extensive listing of countries that the US mints struck coins for we were unable to assign a specific location to this particular error coin.

From the Ray Czahor Collection.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
