PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Silver Katayama Medal, 2602 (1942). By: C. Zamora. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, AU Details Gold Shield.
Honeycutt-312; Basso-151. VERY RARE. Struck to commemorate the expedition to the Philippines in 1942. It was presumably commanded by Katayama but of unknown rank. According to Honeycutt only three to four examples are known to exist. Obverse: Three sided wheel representing the quartermaster Corps, expanded map of Japanese empire in each angle; Reverse: Island view, stars in sky, Japanese characters "YODO" below, a code name referring to unidentifiable higher headquarters. Remnants of suspension loop where someone clipped off the top portion, numerous light scratches as indicated by the details designation. Despite its shortcomings a decent example with bold details and an interesting subject matter. Mottled light grey and slate tone throughout.

From the Pasig River Collection.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
