PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Silver Surrender of Bataan and Corregidor Medal, 1942. By: C. Zamora. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, EF Details Gold Shield.
cf. Honeycutt-319; cf. Basso-159. Not listed in silver. Obverse: Scene of Bataan with Japanese flag, "SOUVENIR" above flag, date of "APR 9, 1942" below flag; Reverse: Island of Corregidor with flagpole, date of "7.5.2602" right of flag, two vertical lines of Japanese characters left of island. Numerous scratches on reverse as noted on the PCGS inset with thick dark oxidation that encompasses that obverse. Despite its shortcomings a neat, interesting and VERY RARE issue that seldom appears on the market certain to see spirited bidding.

The date on the obverse of April 9, 1942 is significant to the history of the Philippines as is marks the first day of the Bataan Death March. We sold a superior uncertified example graded EXTREMELY FINE in our Stack's Bowers and Ponterio auction November 5, 2015 lot # 39579 "The Ray Czahor Collection" where is hammered down for $2,000-.

From the Pasig River Collection.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
