PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Silver Jose P. Laurel Medal, 1943. By: C. Zamora. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield.
cf. Honeycutt-321; cf. Basso-165. Not listed in sliver. Struck to commemorate the appointment of Laurel to the "Puppet" Presidency of the Philippines by the Japanese. Obverse: Bust of Jose Laurel facing left, "JOSE PACIANO LAUREL" above; Reverse: Flag of the Philippines, legend above, date below. A well struck example with good definition of the fine details with rich mottled grey patina. A VERY RARE and interesting medal sure to see spirited bidding.
We sold a comparable uncertified example in our Stack's Bowers and Ponterio auction November 5, 2015 lot # 39582 "The Ray Czahor Collection" that hammered down for $1,800- plus the buyers fee.
From the Pasig River Collection.
Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
