PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Silver and Copper VII Cincuentenario Medals (2 Pieces), 1943. Both PCGS Certified.
Struck to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the first printing press in the Philippines and presumably one of the first books printed in the Philippines the "Doctrina Christiana" by Fray Juan de Plazencia, an early book on Roman Catholic Catechism written in 1593. A highly interesting subject matter with an attractive motif. The silver medal is considered VERY RARE, while the copper version is not listed struck in this metal. The silver issue is beautifully toned displaying a plethora of hues that highlight the design features. The copper version displays lovely rich smooth mocha patina. A highly attractive an well matched set sure to draw the attention of the specialist.
