INDIA. Reserve Bank of India. 5000 Rupees, ND (1960). P-49a. PMG Very Fine 30.
Jhun 6.10.2.2A. Bombay. An absolutely incredible offering, and the first of it's kind that we have offered in our lengthy history as any examples, even the more common 1954 versions in both issued and Specimen, are prohibitively rare. These were only in circulation a short time before being demonetized in 1978. Most pieces were returned which is why it is extremely difficult to find them after the demonetization, coupled with the obligation representing such a large amount of money for the time.

This example is the sole finest known for the catalog number with negligible PMG comments of "Annotations, Ink Stamps" which any seasoned collector knows are to be expected with this issue. Good centering and deep inks are noted. The paper is largely intact with some minor holes also typical for the issue. Ashoka column serving as the vignette at left, and also found at right as the watermark. H.V.R.IYENGAR Signature. Gateway of India, Bombay watermark on the reverse. To the left of center on the reverse is where the ink stamps are observed. This treasure is surely to be a staple of any World Paper Collection, and suitable for big game collectors, along with advanced collectors of India. Likely an opportunity that will not present itself again for quite some time.

Estimate: $30000.00- $40000.00
