THRACE. Mesambria. AR Tetradrachm (16.45 gms), ca. 150-125 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5. Overstruck.
Pr-1043; HGC-3.2, 1568. Struck in the name and types of Alexander III (the Great) of Macedon. Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin; Reverse: Zeus seated left on throne, holding eagle and scepter; in left field, helmet right above ΔA; monogram below throne. Lightly toned and well centered, this piece was overstruck on an uncertain type and features a few minor flan flaws in the field on the reverse.
