Obverse: Helmeted head of Roma right; jug to left, X (mark of value) to lower right; Reverse: Lupa Romana (she-wolf) standing right, head left, suckling the twins (Romulus and Remus); to left, shepherd Faustulus standing right; in background, birds on fig tree. Struck on a compact flan.

The shepherd Faustulus was the mythical figure who discovered Romulus and Remus being suckled by a wolf on the Palatine Hill, whereupon he took them in and raised them with his wife.
