CANADA. Lower Canada. Montreal & Lachine Railroad Company, (ca. 1847). Birmingham Mint. PCGS Genuine--Graffiti, AU Details Gold Shield.
Breton-530; TR-3. Struck for third class passengers (mostly laborers working on the Lachine Canal) for passage on the Montreal & Lachine Railroad. Attractive smooth brown beaver on the reverse. Bold strike with lovely chocolate brown surfaces. Heritage offered a similar token with the same scratch and commented, "The 'X' scratched in the field below THIRD is likely official. We have seen multiple pieces with a similar X scratched in the same place. The Charlton plate piece has a similar X. Presumably, it was some form of cancellation. Perhaps consideration should be given to adding these pieces as a separate variety."

From the Ralph A. Edson Collection.

Estimate: $500.00- $750.00
