Lec-1. By O. Roty. 42 mm. 39.62 gms. Obverse: Two female figures holding a torch and laurel branch; Reverse: Seven lines of text with legends surrounding. Marked ARGENT on edge. Issued to commemorate the opening of the Suez Canal on 17 November 1869. This example is largely dove-gray with regions of darker olive patina across each side. Light traces of friction appear across the highpoints and determine the grade. Also included is the original case of issue. A popular medal that was struck through the end of the 19th century.
