MEXICO. Royal Order of Noble Ladies Gilt Bronze Medal, 1793. Mexico City Mint. Charles IV. UNCIRCULATED DETAILS.
51 mm. Grove-C-265A. One of a stunning and sought after type, this example is a solid piece. Prepared by the Spanish-born artist and chief engraver Geronimo Antonio Gil, this extremely scarce gilt bronze issue was commissioned by Dona Maria Guadalupe de Moncada y Berrio to commemorate the founding of the Spanish Royal Order of Noble Ladies of the Queen. The light hairlines on the fields do not hinder the reflectivity of the piece, and remarkably nearly all of the gilding is retained. With such a stunningly intricate design and impactful history, it is no wonder that examples as attractive as this one, when they do finally change hands, tend to retrieve hefty sums at auction.
Estimate: $300.00- $500.00
