CHINA. Kiangnan. Dragon Dollar Fantasy Gold Medal Pattern, 2019. LPM Mint (Hong Kong). PCGS SPECIMEN-69 Gold Shield.
cf. L&M-210. 32 mm. Designed to replicate Kiangnan's first circulating Silver Dollar coin, albeit on a smaller planchet, this striking gold medal faithfully adheres to the original design, capturing the expressive features on the dragon, with coarse scaling that runs from his head all the way through his slender tail. Produced with a modern flair, it exhibits exceptionally frosted raised designs and mirror-like fields that display Proof-quality depth.

Limited to a mintage of 100 examples, the standard issue (the first part in a series of 8 that will highlight China's most popular vintage coins) was struck containing 1 ounce of .999 fine gold. This pattern or trial issue however, which displays an identical design, was struck on a 1/2 ounce planchet, with "2019 15.616g .999 Fine Gold" laser inscribed to the edge at 6 o'clock. Because of its extreme similar to the regular production issues, this medal was mistakenly placed in a regular shipment, where the discrepancy was then discovered. Upon contacting the mint, our consignor was informed that this was in fact shipped by mistake, and that it was the pattern for the issue, unique on its 1/2 ounce planchet. Our consignor offered return of the item, but ultimately a deal was made to acquire this unique emission. Given its ultimate rarity, this medal will undoubtedly excite fantasy collectors with the chance to own a one-of-kind item that nobody else can.

Estimate: $3000.00- $6000.00
