CHINA. Sinkiang. Xinjiang Yuanbao Chinese Turkestan Principal Ingot. 50 Tael Local Tax Ingot, ND. VERY FINE.
1774.45 gms. BMC-Class XVI Group A #111. Face of ingot stamped twice vertically "Dao Yan" (Circuit Inspector), though only one can be read. Also stamped horizontally with Turki inscription (in Arabic letters) "Smith Ahmad at the Pasha's Office", though this is also only partly visible and the order of letters is implied from the example in BMC. Slight surface porosity hardly distracting mentioned for accuracy. Little in the way of surface marks on this ingot, with the aforementioned stamp weakness, all imbued with a frosty gray tone.

Although similar in style and manufacture to the Hubei Ersibao (Class XIII) ingots, the Sinkiang ingots are clearly a class of their own. Aside from the use of multiple languages, they are cast from a smaller mould with narrow sides which causes them to be smaller and broader at the base. In the case of this ingot, the ends are very high, longer than the solid base portion.

Estimate: $7000.00- $10000.00
