CHINA. Dollar, ND (1923). PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield.
L&M-959; K-678; WS-0105. Tsao Kun in military uniform. A boldly struck dollar with razor-sharp details on the obverse bust, nearly reflective fields, and faint almond obverse toning while the reverse is nearly blast white with slightly subdued luster. An attractive example of the type sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.

Struck during the relatively short presidency of Tsao Kun which began in October of 1923, the year this piece was struck. After Tsao Kun openly bribed the National Assembly members with $5,000 in silver dollars to gain the presidency, the overt corruption resulted in rival factions turning against him, with Tsao Kun eventually being ousted in a coup led by General Feng Yuxiang in October of 1924.

From the Mas Fera Collection.

With old collector's envelope.

Estimate: $7000.00- $10000.00
