CHINA. Szechuan-Shensi Soviet. Dollar, 1934. PCGS MS-61 Gold Shield.
L&M-891; K-808d; KM-Y-513.1; WS-1343; Wenchao-1095 (reverse die only). Variety with hammer over sickle, small "o" in lower right hemisphere of globe, and medium solid stars. A well struck and finely detailed Dollar with gentle luster and a hint of peripheral toning. VERY RARE type in this state of preservation, with only one graded finer by PCGS. In our March 2019 Hong Kong auction Lot # 60703 we sold an inferior unevenly struck, PCGS-AU58, produced from the same dies as the present example which hammered for $35,000 plus buyers fee. An excellent representative of the type with bold legends and strong central devices displaying gentle luster with just a hint of tone in the peripheries.
Struck during a pivotal year in the struggle between Communist and Nationalist forces.
From the Mas Fera Collection.
With old collector's envelope.
Estimate: $15000.00- $20000.00
