CHINA. Silver Merit Medal of Qing Dynasty Imperial Envoy, ND (1896). Not certified, ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
L&M-988; Li-P.33. This medal is also known as the "Legation" medal. Struck to commemorate Li Hung Chang's world tour. Both sides are identical: Two facing dragons, a sun design between with six characters above and four below, the whole encircled by an ornamental border. It is known that the Heaton Mint in Birmingham, England also produced these medals. Attached ribbon is probably not original. Sharply struck, nicely toned and quite attractive.
