JAPAN. 5 Sen, Year 39 (1906). Osaka Mint. PCGS MS-65 Gold Shield.
KM-Y-21; JNDA-1-37. A sharply struck survivor with clear crisp frosty design features and hard mirror-like fields, the flashy surfaces are graced by a thin veneer of sepia patina giving an nice look. A lovely example of this EXTREMELY RARE date certain to see spirited bidding from even the most advanced of collectors.

According the Standard Catalog of World Coins, this date was struck, but never released into circulation. This probably means that they were either melted down at the mint or never received the order to go into full production. The Japanese Numismatic Dealers Association (JNDA) catalog merely states that Year 39 (1906) and Year 42 (1909) are known with no further information. Mintage figures are unknown for either date.

From the Mas Fera Collection.

With old collector's envelope.

Estimate: $6000.00- $8000.00
